THE NIGHT WE ALMOST LOST “BOOMSTICK”: A WAYLON CRYBABY & THE SQUEAKY WHEELS ROAD STORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 17, 2025

Amarillo, TX – Life on the road ain’t for the faint of heart—or for bass players with poor decision-making skills. During a recent stop in Amarillo, Beau “Boomstick” Jenkins, the 6’6″ bassist of Waylon Crybaby & The Squeaky Wheels, wandered off after a show to “find some good barbecue” and ended up getting locked inside a hat shop overnight. It wasn’t until the band was halfway to Ballplay, Tennessee that they realized he was missing.

After a frantic search (and a few confused calls from the store owner), the band retrieved a very amused Boomstick, who had spent the night trying on every hat in the shop and ranking them by “cowboy credibility.” When asked how he passed the time, Boomstick simply said, “I found my perfect hat… and I ain’t never taking it off.”
